Movie Nights: Week in review 3.22-3.28

To celebrate the last week of Women’s History Month we decided to watch some badass women!

Run (2020)

Run is such a great psychological thriller Sarah Paulson and  Kiera Allen do such a phenomenal job playing a Mother and Daughter. Their chemistry and great performances really enhance the overall believability. The story is about a young wheelchair bound girl played by Kiera Allen. She is homeschooled and lives with her very protective Mother who she begins to suspect doesn’t always have the best intentions. She starts to unravel the lies her mother is telling her and it brings her down a dark path. She is a really smart kid, so capable and great representation for the disabled community. It was awesome to watch because Kiera really has used a wheelchair since 2014, it is great they wanted to cast a real disabled actress. This movie is full of twists and turns that keep you engaged and anxious! There are some really cool transitions and the movie is edited really well. The end reveal was great and Kiera really shines as a true badass. This one has great tension throughout and is kinda like a mix between that The Act
(That Gypsy Rose Show) and Misery.

Kill Bill: Vol 1

There are so many incredible badass women in Kill Bill but that one who shines is obviously The Bride aka Beatrix Kiddo Played by Uma Thurman, she is beyond incredible in this. The choreography and the fight scenes are so perfect, she studied martial arts to prepare for this role and it shows. She is so skilled throughout, smart and determined she is the ULTIMATE badass if you ask us! Kill Bill is great for many reasons but one of our favorite is all the different styles used throughout, you got the normal Tarantino normal style, black and white, comic and silhouette styles used and it is such a unique way to illustrate the story. This movie is perfect for any movie night!

Kill Bill: Vol 2

Kill Bill: Vol 2 obviously stars Uma Thurman as The Bride aka Beatrix Kiddo and she is just as amazing as she is in Vol. 1! She is almost more determined and gets out of some real sticky situations. It is great to see a little more about what happened and why and the story unfolds beautifully. The Kill Bill’s really are masterpieces. Not to mention the soundtrack is always killer with any Tarantino film and this is no exception!

Poor Things

To round out women’s month watch the best actress and boy did she deserve it! Poor Things was one of the most unique films I have seen and Bella Baxter is one of the most interesting characters to have graced the big screen! Not a horror by any means but it definitely has horror elements and undertones! Emma Stone’s performance was obviously incredible, she is so captivating and feels so genuine. This movie made us uncomfortable at more that one points but it also made us think. It has the strangest score which we initially didn’t love but it really grew on us and fit the movie perfectly. We loved the random and gruesome shots like when she stabs the dead mans eyes or when the brain is removed during surgery. The effects are great and everything is shot with such a vibe in mind. It goes in and out of black and white and it really gives you an interesting perspective on each scene. Everything feels very dreamy and you watch as the main character Bella Baxter grow into this amazing woman she is at the end. Bella is a badass because she always learns, improves and strives to be better than she is. She is smart and she says what is on her mind, at the end of the day she is very strong and a total badass. Definitely worth a watch but NOT WITH FAMILY it is incredibly graphic. Now that would be horrific.

Hunted

Hunted is a very realistic and real feeling horror thriller. The basic premise is a woman meets a man at a club and goes to his car. They start making out when another man jumps in the front and drives away with her. Really scary situation and these two men are very frightening because they seem pretty nuts. The more aggressive man called “The Guy” played by Arieh Worthalter is an incredibly toxic and sadistic person but it is really entertaining to watch. It has a really great ominous score throughout that really keeps you on the edge of your seat. The woman captured played by Lucie Debay does a great job with making all her reactions and actions seem real and relatable. She become more and more badass as the film goes on! There is a great arrow through the ear scene that is pretty fun. Eve ( Lucie) doesn’t start off the strongest but by the end is repeatedly escaping, fighting back hard and being determined to escape. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quick thriller.
