Movie Nights Week in Review Your weekly Horror Streaming guide

This week we revisited some favorites and it was a blast!

Talk to me (2022)

We love that we got to watch Talk to me again, it had been too long. We LOVE this one. This movie is a MUST watch! Talk to Me embodies everything we love about modern horror. From the killer introduction scene (one of our favorites ever!), the soundtrack/score which work together to set a tense and dark tone throughout, and the genuinely terrifying storyline this film has very few flaws. It's best to go into this one without watching the trailer first if you can because several scenes are shocking and the plot deserves to be unraveled as it's meant to be seen. Throughout the movie you will notice the strong ties to addiction with the euphoric feelings they get from something so obviously damaging, the peer pressure from the group, and even more. Mia's addiction to the hand ruins the lives of those around her and takes over her life. Shot perfectly in our opinion, this movie flows so well you can't help but get sucked in. Few films make us cringe but this one earns it with a few brutal scenes. Don't miss it!

Oculus (2013)

Oculus is one of our all time favorite movies! (To the point we want that mirror tattooed) We adore Mike Flanagan and this film is fantastic in so many ways. The score of the film is incredible and fits each scene perfectly and really makes the movie flow. The idea of a beautiful, horrific and haunted mirror is intriguing. The writing is super solid and it weaves seamlessly between the past and present to tell the story of a brother and a sister who encounter the mirror as children, survive and vow to return to kill it. There are a lot of really cool shots (in true Flanagan fashion) and overall the vibe of the movie stays creepy and unsettling throughout. Rory Cochrine does a great job playing the father, gradually changing his behavior while being seduced by the mirror and Katee Sackhoff does an incredible job as well. All the acting from the main cast feels very genuine and the casting for the younger versions is nearly perfect. The end gets pretty supernatural to say the least but if you’re into that give it a watch!

It Chapter One (2017)

We love this adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Bill Skarsgard does a beyond phenomenal job playing pennywise, actually the entire cast does an incredible job and feels so genuine. This is easily one of the most “emotional” horror movies because of the mature and unsettling subject matter, and how you really feel for each kid and their personal plights, it really enriches the story. The plot flows really well and has a great ending. We like this first chapter much better than part 2 so even if you just watch it as a stand alone it is worth watching!

Leviathan (1989)

Leviathan is such a good one and we feel like its a little underrated. Starring Peter Weller, Amanda Pays and our favorite Ernie Hudson. The story and vibe are very similar to Alien (1979) or Event Horizon (1997) but if it was underwater. We’ve always fel that space movies and deep seas movies have a very similar feeling that we love. The story moves along nicely and flows well and the special effects are awesome and reminiscent of The Thing. Worth a watch if you like sci fi horror at all.

Get Out

Get Out is such a great movie all around. One of our favorites and by far our favorite Jordan Peele Movie. One of the main characters Rose is very twisted, sick and manipulative. Allison Williams does a great job and her and Daniel Kaluuya seem to have good chemistry. Rose’s mother Missy Armitageis also a big part of the film and a lot of fun to watch in this. There are so many awkward and uncomfortable exchanges in this movie and some really creepy scenes. All of the actors give incredible performances but especially Allison Williams, Daniel Kaluuya, Betty Gabriel, LaKeith Stanfield and Catherine Keener! 100% Worth a watch and a rewatch.
