Movie Nights: Week in review 11.1-11.7

Terrifier 3 was the favorite of the week and we had such a blast seeing it in theatres.

Terrifier 3 (2024)
Terrifier 3 was such a fun ride, we absolutely loved it. This was the first movie theatre experience we have had in years and it was worth it. David Howard Thornton couldn’t be better at what he does, he is PERFECT in this. We did think the gore was a little over hyped but we loved every bloody second of it. There are some incredible scenes throughout and the overall vibe is brutal. Art is such an incredible horror icon and it was such a pleasure to see more of him at what felt like his prime (so far). We loved the addition of that woman from the first movie, we thought it was giving Deadite vibes for sure. We didn’t enjoy the little girl in Terrifier 2 so this was great pivot and we loved how in a way it gave Art a voice. On top of all of this incredible violence and gore it was hilarious. Terrifier 3 by FAR the funniest movie we have seen all year and honestly we don’t remember the last time we laughed that hard at a movie. We loved this one and cannot wait to give it a second viewing! If you like horror, gore and an incredibly twisted and entertaining killer this is for you.

Evil Dead (2013)

This is in our opinion the best horror movie “remake” that has ever been made. Fede Alvarez kills it, this updated version of Evil Dead puts a great spin on a classic and revamps it in a modern way. The premise is believable and perfectly explains why they are out in this hellish cabin. A group of friends and the brother of a drug addicted woman are trying to stick with her through a drug detox, this explains why they won't leave when things first get weird and makes it more grounded and relatable. They find a very disturbing scene in the basement and one of them decides to read a cursed book they found which awakens some evil. The attacks in this movie are brutal and the special effects are great the gore alone makes this one worth watching, on top of that the story and acting are killer too.

Haunt (2019)

Haunt is so much fun, it is one of our favorites to watch in the fall. The backstory is a little on the whiney side in our opinion but overall the movie is a lot of fun and super creative. The killers masks and outfits are incredibly unique and very genuinely creepy. The acting is just so-so but believable enough and the story is so much fun. For sure worth a watch if you like haunted house horror movies at all.

X (2022)

X grows on us more and more every time we watch it. The actors all do a great job and we love the vibe of the film. It can be a little slow at times but it works to build suspense. Mia Goth is iconic in this and we think this is the best of the trilogy! We would advise against watching it with family members (which was a mistake that we made somehow) because it gets pretty raunchy. We love the ending, it is a lot of fun and just the right amount of disturbing. Totally worth a watch.

Scream (1996)

We probably watch Scream way too much but what can we say its a comfort movie. This near perfect film has the perfect amount of humor, violence and nostalgia. Obviously this classic is always worth watching.
