Movie Nights: Week in review 8.16-8.22

This week we were all over the place!

In a violent Nature (2024)

We were so excited to see this one and we are really glad we finally caught it! Although it wasn’t our favorite it had some good vibes and cool parts. We actually don’t mind a slow horror movie, that was not our issue. The biggest thing that bugged us was that the marketing for it advertised it as POV of the Killer and it is just not. It is more third person from behind the killer and that was cool. We just had to adjust our expectations. We felt the sound could have been better considering how much walking was in it, the foley on that was a little lazy, it felt like it was the exact same two steps over and over, almost like a video game. Adding better audio of actual walking around in the woods would have improved it a lot. We also LOVED the kill obviously (IYKYK) but we had some issues with how it started. It felt a bit silly when it could have just been violent and bloody. Lastly we would’ve liked it if the sound was a little more dependent on his location, half the time people across the pond sounded as loud as if he was right next to them and it made it feel less realistic for us. All that being said this was a super creative and unique film, it is definitely worth watching at least once.

Nightcrawler 2014)

This movie is so incredible! We had actually forgotten how much we loved it. Jake Gyllenhaal always kills it. We have loved him since the 90s and he just keeps getting better and better. He really delivers an incredible performance and really carries the film. Bill Paxton is also in it and we don’t get enough of him anymore. It has a great and unique plot that pulls you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The tension builds throughout and explodes in an incredible climax, you get to see an incredible car chase scene; One of the best we’ve ever seen. Nightcrawler is very dark, gritty and graphic, perfect for your next movie night!

Swimfan (2002)

We love this one and it shouldn’t be a surprise because we love 2000’s horror! Starring Jesse Bradford and Erika Christensen it is a really fun teen obsession thriller that is full of dark twists and turns. It follows a teenage girl Madison Bell (Erika Christensen) as she develops a dangerous obsession after a sexual encounter with Ben Cronin. (Jesse Bradford) It is super entertaining and fast paced teen thriller, perfect if you’re in that kinda mood.

M.O.M. Mothers of Monsters (2020)

This one was weird, we didn’t hate it but it wasn’t really worth the time. The movie was essentially only two characters and the actors just weren’t good enough to carry the movie. It is an interesting concept but nothing crazy, unique or impressive. It shows video footage and clips that a mother has taken to start monitoring her son who she thinks is  psychopath. The storyline is a little silly and really goes off the rails for the second half of the film. You don’t like either of the characters so you’re not really invested in anything. Not a total waste of time but we wouldn’t recommend it.

An American Werewolf in London (1981)

This was a first time watch for us and we liked it more than we thought we would! We were very impressed with the monster effects. The transformation scene is one of our favorites we’ve seen, it was done really well, especially considering it was 1981. The first half of the movie is a little slow for us but it was worth it to get to the fun in the middle. When he starts seeing his dead friend it gets pretty funny. We thought the ending was hilarious and it was a fun ride. Definitely worth a watch at least once.
