Movie Nights: Week in review 9.13-9.19

We had a pretty light week!

Funhouse (2019)

Funhouse is not the best movie out there, it is also not as good as any of the others on this list BUT it is a lot of fun and worth watching if you’re in this kinda mood. It is about a group of “famous” people getting stuck in a house for what they think is a reality TV show but ends up being something much sicker and more fun. Disclaimer the acting is a little stiff and not that great but it gets less awkward as the movie goes on. It has a really fun opening and we ended up liking the villain in it. There are some really creative kills and it is just fun to watch. It does kinda get a little boring towards the end and we didn’t like the ending but if you like silly, gory low budget horror with good kills it is worth watching.

The Conjuring (2013)

The Conjuring is definitely one of our favorite paranormal movies and have some of our favorite “Ed and Lorraine Warren” moments (They work so well together). The actors are incredible. We love Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Joey King and Lili Taylor in these roles especially. We love the premise of moving into a “haunted” house, it is usually pretty fun. The effects are done well and it really adds to the real feel of the movie. There are some very creepy scenes that stuck with us and make this one so memorable. The storyline is pretty terrifying and unravels well. Would recommend it if you enjoy any paranormal films!

Sinister (2012)

Sinister is so much better than we remembered. It is about a true crime writer who moves into a house with a nasty past in hopes of writing a new book about what happened there. Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) finds some videos on Super 8 film in a box left in the attic and things get progressively worse from there. We love the beginning especially and how disturbing the premise is. We love the film aspect, it adds to the creep factor when stuff gets weird. Ethan Hawke does a fantastic job throughout and feels very relatable at times. We also feel like the storyline is really intriguing, even though we’d seen it before you’re almost on the edge of your seat. There are one or two jump scares but for this type of movie that’s really not much and it doesn’t ruin the vibe.

Jennifer’s Body (2009)

We have a lot of nostalgia for Jennifer’s Body and we have always had so much fun with it. It is also cool because the waterfalls and town it is based off of is a real place in our home state, Devil’s Kettle, MN. We watch this every year if not more than that. It stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried as best friends. The whole thing has teen scream vibes with a gory demon twist. It can be very lighthearted but it works well in those moments and makes us laugh. A bonus is the soundtrack is great too. (Not “Through the Trees” the actual soundtrack) The effects throughout look very bloody and realistic and we loved the gruesome shots. The dialogue is very weird and very 2000’s cringy at times but feels right in the movie with the characters. We love Amanda Seyfried in pretty much everything she is in but it’s always nice to see some little LBTGQ+ action in the mix. Worth a watch if you want something twisted, gory and funny.
