Movie Nights: Week in review 9.20-9.26

This week we were all over the place and watched some familiar favorites.

Saw (2004)

Saw was director James Wan's feature debut and it became an instant horror classic. Starring Cary Elwes who we love (We have his autograph from when we met at AMC) and Leigh Whannell, this one is a lot of fun. We are not huge fans of the villain “Jigsaw” but we like this movie. It is pretty graphic and has a fun storyline. The score is amazing, Charlie Clouser killed it and that makes it more intense throughout. This movie is full of tense moments and we like the ending. Worth a watch if you like gory crime thrillers.

Phantoms (1998)

This was a first time watch for Aletha but a nostalgic watch for Marissa. It has such solid spooky vibes it is great for fall. With a pretty stacked cast it stars Ben Affleck, Liev Schreiber and Rose McGowan some of our favorites from the 90’s! This one has some really creepy creatures in it that are kind of a mix between an Alien Facehugger and a mini Jeepers Creepers. This one is just so much fun, it has that haunted small town vibe that is perfect for fall. We really liked the effects in it too it is just a good spooky time. Worth a watch if you’re looking for some 90’s sci-fi thriller vibes!

Childs Play (2019)

This one is a lot of fun and has great bloody gore throughout. We really like the new and updated reasons for this evil doll it actually makes a lot more sense than the original. We liked the kid actor Ben Daon and we love Aubrey Plaza and the cast did such a great job. The look of the Buddi doll is a little off-putting but we love the vibes throughout and it is another great one to watch in the fall.

Bad Samaritan (2018)

Bad Samaritan is a fast paced cat and mouse horror thriller that is most definitely worth watching.  It is very well acted with David Tennant as Cale Erendreich, a rich playboy with a sick secret and some bad habits. We love Tennant, he is incredibly talented and gives a fantastic villain performance (as he usually does), he captures an evil essence and brings more depth to the character and the movie. Our hero is a young thief just trying to do the right thing, played by Robert Sheehan who also gives a fantastic performance. The characters seem well developed and realistic. There are some really creepy scenes, a horrific premise overall and a great build up of tension. We also love the ending which is always a plus. This film has an anxious crime thriller vibe throughout and we dig it, it would be a great choice for something that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Tucker and Dale VS Evil

This one is more than just a little humorous, it is straight up hilarious. From the second it starts til it ends this movie keeps giving and giving. Each death is so funny and unique this movie is truly a phenomenal addition to the cabin horror genre. Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk do an incredible job playing two loveable country folk that get caught up in some bloody business while on a trip to their vacation cabin they run into a group of preppy young people who end up dying around them. If you want something gory and full of laughs this is the one for you!
