Movie Nights: Week in review 9.27-10.3

This week we watched a good mix to ring in October.

Immaculate (2024)

This one we actually liked more than we thought we would. We are not huge Sydney Sweeney fans and she is our lead character Cecilia. She plays the character well even though it is odd at first. The premise is a little silly to us but overall it was a decent creepy watch. Fairly predictable but not a waste of time if you like religious/nun horror.

See No Evil (2006)

This one was such an odd premise, a group of prisoners is “hired” to clean up an old hotel for some reason. There are a lot of goofs with this movie apart from the plot making no sense the writing is even worse. It stars wrestler Glenn Jacobs, he doesn’t bring much to the movie other than being large and kind of menacing this one has some pretty awkward acting. We really didn’t like the ending and the movie as a whole is pretty nonsensical. Not really worth the time.

The Purge (2013)

We actually like The Purge a fair amount, it is a fun one and the first one is so much different than the others. We love us some Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey is also good in this. The premise is really interesting and honestly doesn’t even seem that crazy these days. Essentially a wealthy family is threatened and terrorized by masked killers during “The Purge”, the one night a year all crime is legal even murder. The movie is frustrating because one of the characters continuously makes stupid decisions that put the family at risk, but it adds to the tension. It is very intense and entertaining throughout definitely worth a watch at least once.

The Purge: Anarchy (2014)

The Purge: Anarchy follows a few different people during “The Purge”, the one night a year all crime is legal even murder. We liked the way the stories wove together and there were some really fun attacks throughout. Fast paced for the most part with decent writing. This one isn’t as good as the first one but if you enjoyed the original this one is worth a watch.

Ready or Not (2019)

One of our favorites, this one is funny, dark and fast paced. The dialogue feels authentic and natural, the jokes don’t take away from the movie or make it too silly. Samara Weaving and Adam Brody really carry the main humor but its humorous throughout situationally as well. The violence in it is so much fun, it is just a wild ride. We loved the progression of the dress getting dirtier and bloodier throughout the night, she wore seventeen different versions of the dress in the film and they all flow seamlessly. You can really tell what care and thought they put into it. The kills are a mix between brutal and hilarious, what more do you want in a horror comedy? We LOVE Grace, our main character. Samara Weaving kills this performance and is so funny. With an iconic ending shot this movie is great from start to finish.
