Movie Nights: Week in review 10.10-10.17

This week we watched some new ones and it was a blast!

Strange Darling (2023)

Strange Darling

We have been wanting to see this for a while and were so excited we got to this week. Right off the bat, we loved it. The biggest criticism we had was we felt this movie deserved a huuuuuge trigger warning for sexual assault that we really hadn’t heard from anybody. Willa Fitzgerald did such a fantastic job playing her role, she was very unlikable and incredibly unhinged. She also looked fantastic, props to costume design because throughout the movie her appearance changes drastically and it works really well. We also love the way it was structured and how the scenes were broken into chapters. The format was unique and kept it interesting throughout. We love Kyle Gallner so much ( I mean certified Horror Daddy for sure) He got crazy bulked and is honeslty too sexy in this. On top of the eye candy he does such an incredible job, his range is fantastic and he brings such a great energy to this movie. Overall we really enjoyed it, despite not totally loving the overall message. Worth a watch if you like horror and are okay with a pretty intense sexual premise.

Blink Twice (2024)

Blink Twice was another one we felt like we could have used a trigger warning on but other that that we really had fun with it. It follows a cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie ) that sparks an unlikely romance with a billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) at a gala she is working and proceeds to fly out to his private island for a spontaneous vacation. Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie give fantastic performances and have great chemistry throughout that gives the movie a relatable feel. It is more of a slow and creepy ominous vibe throughout and less like a thriller. The ending is pretty sick although semi-predictable and definitely stuck with us. Worth a watch if you’re looking for something on the slower side with a twisted ending.

Milk & Serial (2024)

Milk & Serial was such a pleasant surprise. We really really enjoyed it, we couldn’t believe how little the budget was at an estimated $800. Right off the bat we liked the name its intriguing and kept us wondering why. Milk was such a creepy character and Curry Barker gave a realistic and unsettling performance. For a random youtube channel found footage horror movie all the others acted better than you have expected for them not being “real” actors. Milk & Serial feels like if Game Night (which we also really enjoy) were a horror movie and we loved the ride. It unfolds really nicely and keeps you on your toes. It was pretty grainy and the coloring was off but its hard to judge considering the budget and it being found footage vibes. For what is is we don’t really think it could have been any better. A must watch for horror fans. Honestly our favorite of the week.

Speak No Evil (2024)

Speak no Evil was a pleasant surprise because we liked it way more than anticipated. Simply put this is the story of a family going to visit some “friends” they meet abroad while traveling abroad. Their trip takes some dark turns and they find these people are not what they expected. In this remake the parents seem much more relatable and less frustratingly docile and pathetic. They feel more like real people and it made it a lot more relatable. All the actors did an incredible job. James McAvoy delivers a chilling performance and looked jaaackkkked (I mean god damn). Mackenzie Davis also does a great job and feels so much more like a mother than in the original. There were a few parts we wish would’ve made it into the remake but overall we liked the changes it made it feel more realistic.

Freddy Vs. Jason (2003)

Freddy Vs. Jason is pretty much just pure fun. Starring Robert Englund (the only Freddy in our eyes) and Ken Kirzinger as Jason. Although we don’t like the ending and at times it gets a little silly for us, overall of course it is worth a watch especially during spooky season. When you’re in the mood for something funny and tropy especially if you have nostalgia for the OG characters it is just a good time.
